Usefulness

What is it

Zotero is a free citation and bibliographic tool similar to Endnote and Refworks. Zotero can be installed as a desktop application or as a browser extension for Firefox. Registering with Zotero provides 100 MB of free online storage, an additional GB can be purchased for $20 a year.

Seamless integration with the web browser is one of the principle advantages of Zotero. Any document that you find online, such as books, webpages, and PDFs, can be recorded and stored in the program. Citations from research databases can be automatically exported. Resources that you collect can be organized using folders and tags. Furthermore, your journal articles can be stored in the cloud option associated with your account, making your research accessible anywhere an Internet connection is available.

Where can it be used in the program

Zotero can be a cornerstone application in the DPS program. Students will have to make a decision early on regarding the bibliographic recording tool that they will use. Zotero is a very capable and free option. Because it is opensource, Zotero benefits from integration with other powerful research tools, such as Mendeley and Docear. This integration is significant and should be considered when beginning your research.
